How many times have you said, “I wish there was something I could do” about a student who comes from a rough home life? There IS something you can do and that is to become one of the 5 people in a child’s life that it takes to make a real difference between success and failure.

If you think back to your own childhood, I’m guessing you could name several people in your circle that took an interest in you and your well-being. Perhaps you had a mom, a dad, grandmother, grandfather, aunt, uncle, neighbor, a teacher, a minister, a youth pastor, a family friend. The fact that you are reading this says to me that you have made a success of your life and indicates the high probability that you have had 5 or more people in your life that cared about you.

Now what about those children who have 1 or sadly no one who is there to teach, to mentor, to give hope and haven? Those are the kids who fall through the cracks, those are the kids who become a statistic.

What can we do? I’ve got a solid suggestion. Take a look!

School is back in session soon. Start a movement, start a relationship! It’s a new year and a new opportunity to make a difference!

I’d love to hear your story on mentoring a child in your classroom, in your neighborhood, in your place of worship. Please share how you made a difference!

When we teach, we need to reach the whole child and then watch them soar!

You take care and I’ll see you next time!
