Double Dosing for Students Who are Significantly Behind in Reading!

A sense of urgency, time is of the essence, get ‘er done is the theme of today’s video!  We have too many students come in to our schools already at a deficit because they come from an impoverished home environment.  Parents who mainly interact with their children for what is called “command and control” which basically means they don’t do much communicating with their children outside of keeping them in line and telling them what to do, are not giving their children opportunities to hear rich vocabulary through daily reading of children’s literature, thoughtful discussions about family stories, processing feelings, or problem solving real life situations.

Some parents do not or cannot offer their children experiences in the community to learn new vocabulary and discover things for themselves to add to their schema.  There are more reasons than just these for why students come to us way, way behind before the first day of kindergarten, but…

Whatever the reason, it doesn’t change the fact that there is a very narrow timeline to teach reading to children.

One way to help is to Double Dose them.

Take a look!

If you want more information about any of these programs, let me know and I can direct you to the right person!  I can personally speak to the McGraw Hill programs, which have moved so many of our students ahead faster and further than they were getting before the intervention!

I’m hoping his video gives you more of a sense of urgency about how you can make the best of the instructional minutes you do have!

Let’s work smarter, not harder for our students!

You take care and I’ll see you next time!
