Chewelry Options for Our Student Who Have Oral Sensory Needs!

When you have a student who ruins a t-shirt a week or someone who can’t leave your classroom pencils and marker caps alone, you need options!

Options that are discreet and as “chew proof” as possible is what you need.  I’ve found some really fun choices to show you!

Take a look!

Even if these options help redirect students to meet their oral sensory needs in a more socially acceptable way, at least some of the time, it’s a win!  As students get older, the goal would be to help students curb this need in a public place or move to something that most people wouldn’t know a sensory need is being met like the following: chewing gum, chewing licorice, or chewing on a straw in a drink bottle.

For some students, using an electric toothbrush either at home or during the school day helps to meet this need as well.  There are several options out there!  I always recommend you check with an OT for the best ideas!

I hope this give you some things to explore! Enjoy!

You take care and I’ll see you next time!
