First semester of this school year is nearly over and I’m guessing that you may have a student or two who could use some multi-syllable decoding strategies right about now….am I right?
Well, all I can say is that you need to watch today’s video and the NEXT two weeks of videos if you want to see a simple way to teach multi-syllable decoding!!!
This is SO COOL that all I can say is ……Where was this when I was in school?????
Take a look!!!!!
The book I highlight in the video is actually the resource I was taught to use for Orton-Gillingham multi-sensory strategies for teaching decoding. It’s a wonderful resource that every teacher who is teaching reading decoding should have!!!!
Think about it…if you teach students the rules of decoding, you can have your students learning how to spell 10,000 words a year rather than the traditional 300 “spelling words” they would typically learn in a year. I had spelling tests when I was in school where I learned how to spell the word for the test and then immediately forgot how to spell the word. I’ve seen that approach used even to this day! Not a great idea!!
Check out this book and you’ll think about decoding in a whole new light!!!
The holidays are around the corner. I wish you peace and goodwill wherever this post finds you. We need a little more of that here and everywhere.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving to all of my subscribers here in the states!
You take care and I’ll see you next time!
