Children love surprises and novelty. What better way to bring this to your instruction than with something that is seasonal, fun and has multiple applications. When we recently had a professional development meeting with the district SLPs, one of the agenda items was for every person on the team to bring something to share. One of our SLPs brought this huge plastic container filled with fake snowballs that he uses in his therapy sessions much to his students’ delight.
Take a look!
Wouldn’t it be fun to have an indoor snowball fight? These snowballs aren’t cold and don’t hurt when you get hit. I tried a fake snowball fight with Jerry and they are so light they barely reach the target. I can say that you won’t have to worry about anyone getting hurt!
Another idea that I didn’t mention in the video would be to use the snowballs as reinforcers for all kinds of accomplishments.
Try this fun filled, sensory, multipurpose tool and see if you can restore some excitement and interest in lessons during these humdrum days of winter!
Let me know how it goes!
You take care and I’ll see you next time!
